At Last The End!

Throughout this year my blog posts have reflected the ideas that I have gained through honors English 9th grade. At the start of this year when I heard about this online assignment I thought that it would be really awesome. However I have since realized that It is a lot more work then I expected. For starters it can be extremely difficult to recall the dates when the blogs are due and I often relied on friends to help me remember. However this was a good experience, for it allowed us to share our different perspectives on literature and composition of writing. The comment idea was also brilliant. Feedback in writing is always appreciated. I always enjoyed the blogs that had more to do with my opinions then say one that said to paraphrase of comment on another topic. The random posts were fun such as finding an allusion to Romeo and Juliet. There were many options, this was defiantly a great idea. If I could pick one thing to fix about these blogs it would be....... NOTHING! They were off the chain. Some of my favorite class moments were the Bow Chicka Bow Wow Ones. And I was super excited to include it into my "English Reflections blog" which is similar to this one. This became a saying that sort of defined me while we were reading Romeo and Juliet. Another of my favorite blogs as the getting to know me, our first post. I especially liked this one because of its ability to force (i guess is an o.k word) all of us to open up to one another. Just like most of the rest of the students I also loved the incredibly short blogs, "Yah less work for me". The blog assignment was challenging and new so I think that a good quote for my blogs is from Albert Einstein, " A person who never made a mistake, never tried anything new." Well until this year i had never used blogger and was new to this idea. And I must admit that I did make some mistakes along the way; yeah go ahead, point and laugh! But the point is that you never experience an experience if you don't make an attempt to do so. Over the course of the year I feel like I have played only a small part in the big picture but is was a blast. I had lots of fun in English class, made some people laugh and very possibly started a Romeo and Juliet Bow Chicka Bow Wow trend (Mrs. Gilman you should tell me if next years class ever does that). And I will sincerely miss this class a whole lot ( but the feelings aren't as strong here as my lust for Summer is WHOOOOOOOOOO!)

R&J Essay

Writing my essay took lots of time and thought. I took this very seriously since i got a B last time. i though of a great Idea and totally milked it. I believe that after all year I have really improved on my essay skills. To me literary analysis is trying to decipher what the author had intended for a specific character and analysing the different literary devices he/she used. It is important to understand how to use and comprehend what the author is saying. However in some cases like Shakespeare it is sometimes challenging to understand what exactly he is saying. However being able to decipher their codes s very rewarding when you can understand and get a better understanding of the story.

In this essay i made sure that I had nothing from the B section and every thing from the A. Last essay I only got a B because I had a a weak hook and such. So this time I typed with my rubric right next to me so I'm pretty confident this time. My Essay will be a A. I think!

Summer!

O.k So I've been dying to read Angles and Demons as well as The Lost Symbol/ Last year I read the Da Vinci Code and loved it. So i've been looking for time to finish the series. Both of these books are Written by Dan Brown. I love mystery, fantasy and adventure books and Dan Brown includes all three. He gives facts that seem almost entirly farfetched but are acurate. He sets an amazing table for suspense and action sequences. So I can't wait to read these and see what other adventures Robert Langdon has to go through.

Dreams

I take school very seriously so I tend to stress. So the night before a big biology test I had a terrible dream that I would Fail! So I woke up in the middle of the night to review my notes. At First I thought that it would be a bad idea but I was wrong. The next day I took the test and I received a 39/40 I was so happy it was my best grade ever on a bio test. I was so happy that i spent a little extra time studying. this event lead me to believe that dreams do actually mean something.

This action reminds me of Romeo because he will do whatever it takes to ensure that he gets what he wants. this is also a Romeo action because he unlike Mercutio believes in dreams. Romeo gives Mercutio and Benvolio a long speech about the dream that he had the night before telling them that them should not attend the Capulet party because he foresaw a bad outcome. Perhaps he was referring to Mercutio's Death or his own Banishment. Either way dreams do mean something to some people and I as well as Romeo am one of them.

Culture Shock!

(Hey Juliet)
I think your're fine
You really blow my mind
Maybe someday, you and me can run away
I just want you to know
I want to be your Romeo
Het Juliet

Right there is the perfect modern day Romeo and Juliet. It's about a deep love for a women, just like Romeo has for Juliet. I mean it's almost as if this song was written in honor of Shaksperes play. I wonder?

English Reflection

What is English? A language, a class or an adventure filled with opportunities for speculation and opinion. In English there is no such thing as a right or Wong answer, there is only your answer; that's the beauty of the subject. you can be comical, serious, sentimental or even deep; it makes no difference. For me comedy is the way to go punch up the story line a little bit give it some pizazz. If you take all literature to seriously, which is not necessarily bad, it can become boring and repetitive. SPICE IT UP! For Example in Great Expectations Charles Dickens the relationship that he creates between Pip and Estella can be seem as a no win battle for Pip just a boy lost in love with someone who can never love him back. Or you can say that Estella's cruelty is her way I telling Pip that she wants him. Bow Chicka Bow Wow! See make it more interesting for yourself. Now you don't have to be comical like me but that's the best part about English, being Unique!

Skit Ideas

1. For my first idea I thought itwould be cool t act out the scenewhen that soldiers come to Joe and then they go on the hunt for the Convict. It has a lot of roles it it and it cna be used to contrast the way Pip acts in the begining towards Joe compared to when he is a gentleman.
2. The second idea is to portray the first scene between Pip and Estella when they are playing their card game. Even though Estella is quite mean to Pip he still falls inlove with her after this encounter.
3. My last option for a skit is to show the scene that has Miss Havisham apoligizing to Pip and then catching on fire. The fact that Pip saves her shows that he is not as selfish as he appears.

I personally like the idea of using #3 because it is an important scene for the play.

Not Again!!!!

Ok the comcept of Compeyson and his connection to all of the characters. He is the second convict fighting with Abel in the Marshes correct? And is also is linked to Miss Havisham by being her betrayer right? So why? What purpose does Dickens intend from having one character ruin others lives? I think that in some way Abel has past experiences with Miss HAvisham besides the link with Compeyson. Maybe the Pocket's or other family can tie in.
Please HELP ME!!!!!!!

WHAT???!!!!!

While reading Great Expectations there is a lot that I don't understand but the one quote that sticks out is why Pip calls his experiences his "Expectations". In chapter 31 In the last paragraph Pip Says "and miserably dreamed that my expectations were canceled. (Pp. 259). Why would he refer to them like this? why not his, dreams or accomplishments. Please help me!

Great Expectations

Miss Havisham is an distressed women. On her wedding day her heart was broken and from that point on her life stopped. I use a clock to show this. At her house all of the clocks are stopped on the same time, most likley the moment she was dumped. She has not chaged a single thing since this moment and is still emotional destressed.

Great Expectations Quote

Stop and think about what what Dickens meant when he said "Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day." Such a great metaphor with a deep meaning. At first glance it is not exactly clear what is meant. Life can change for the better or the worse in one instant. Pip has just had a strange experience, he went to the home of an old strange women just to play; what would you think. Soon after Pip falls in love with Estella a girl at the house, showing signs of maturing. he decides that he does not want to become Joe's Apprentice because he is afraid of what Estella might think. This day forever changed the way Pip saw his family and home.

My life changing day was the day I moved from New York to Washington; quite a difference the two have. I lost friends family and much more. At first i was devastated, i just wanted to go right back home and forget that whole thing ever happened. I hated our decision to come but in the end I think it was beneficial because I have tons of friends and a good thing going on here. In the end I accepted thing for how they were; maybe Pip will too.

Our topic has many aspects to analyze. I will be looking at the Earnest lies linked to pleasure and so on. For my first detail. I am using the scene when Jack explains to Algy that he is Jack in town and Ernest in the country. My commentary will explain that the reason for this is the Pursuit of pleasure, in other words Gwendolyn. My next point is how Algy is just like Jack by pretending to be Ernest in order to win a girl while my commentary will explain Algernon's pursuits of pleasure linked to the lies behind them. And finally i will end with a quote of the titles namesake. My commentary will describe how Earnest means honest but is used as a pun because it is a name and has a meaning. This is perhaps the most important line in the play. I now know the true importance of being Ernest. Because our thesis says that we will describe how the different levels of lies affect the plot and story my commentary will describe how the big lies revolving around Ernest affect all of the characters.

For my three fold transition sentence I am going to use is "Though the lies start off small and comical they grow even bigger affecting everyone and trapping the characters into a weird place.
